FSMK:s avhandlingspris tilldelas Francesca Morini från Södertörns högskola, för avhandlingen Design + Data Journalism: Shifting epistemologies, values, and practices med motiveringen:
This thesis constitutes an innovative and independent contribution to Media Studies at the intersection of design and journalism. It is, in every respect, well written and offers significant and original theoretical, methodological, and empirical knowledge concerning the role of design in contemporary data journalism. The research design is characterised by a high degree of originality, as the author integrates theoretical perspectives on epistemology, objectivity, power, and representation with methods commonly employed in human–computer interaction research combined with visual framing, interviews, and action research. The covering essay (kappa) demonstrates an impressive capacity to bridge social-scientific and humanistic traditions. In sum, the thesis advances the fields of journalism studies, human–computer interaction, and media and communication studies through its distinctive interdisciplinary perspective.
